Introduction

The IoT Soil Monitor lesson looks at a topical subject, soil monitoring, from several angles.

Students build and program their own device that measures soil temperature and moisture. The hands-on experiments make it easier for them to grasp and remember what causes a lack of soil moisture and what it leads to.

What will you need for the lesson?

• A computer with the HARDWARIO Playground application installed
• A projector or large monitor
• Start Set from the HARDWARIO TOWER IoT kit (you will use its Radio Dongle)
• Sensor Set from the HARDWARIO TOWER IoT kit
• Control Set from the HARDWARIO TOWER IoT kit
• An LED strip with 144 LEDs
• The HARDWARIO Soil Sensor
• A glass of water and a container of soil
