Meaning and function of the IoT button
Buttons are one of the most basic and widely used devices at home, at school, and at work. They accompany us throughout the day—from turning off the alarm clock to turning off the TV with the remote control. Converting buttons into IoT devices brings many advantages:
- Adds a timestamp to the button press
- Allows the button to be pressed from anywhere
- Speeds up the transmission of the button press information to other recipients
Use of the IoT Button in Real Life
The IoT button is used in many fields and everyday situations:
Home
- Smart doorbell – e.g. on your smartphone you can see that someone is ringing at your home
- Automatic ordering of frequently purchased goods – e.g. a button near laundry detergent
- Summoning a household member – e.g. calling for dinner
- Device control – e.g. remote control of a door, gate, or garage door
Work
- Reporting production status – e.g. the ANDON system
- Reporting a request – e.g. summoning maintenance to a workstation
- Recording operations – e.g. logging defective products
School
- Reporting a request – e.g. summoning cleaning of toilets
- Device control – e.g. remote control of the gym door
